MUSICAL ADVENTURES IN CUBA

We offer  music courses in Cuba for all instruments including singers.

Each course is designed to accommodate the individual needs and levels of each participant therefore please carefully complete the musical questionnaire section of the booking form.

The central concept is to give our students a chance to immerse themselves in Cuban music by playing as a group alongside some of Havana’s finest musicians.
Each study day consists of 5 hours with our Cuban tutors – divided between sectional practice and playing as a group.

There is an emphasis on playing a small repertoire of songs and working to bring them to a reasonably high standard so that a performance can be given at the end of the course.

In addition there are escorted nights out in Havana giving students the chance to experience the vibrant music scene. With our Cuban guide, students are made to feel part of the musical fraternity, meeting musicians and soaking up the atmosphere in some of Havanas best music venues.

Daily Schedule (Mon – Fri)
Study with Cuban tutors either in sections or as a group:
Morning session: 10:00 - 12:30. Then lunch 12:30 - 1:30
Afternoon session: 1:30 – 4:00 There after: optional extra practice (without Cuban tutors)

Duration – 10 days over 16 nights or 5 days over 9 nights.

A two-week intensive course for musicians. We look at a  repertoire of songs drawn from a wide variety of styles such as - mambo, cha cha cha, charanga, bolero, danzon, descarga and pachanga etc.

Whilst reading ability is not a prerequisite, it would be a very useful asset. There is a performance at the end of the course at a public venue in Havana. Students are encouraged to develop improvising skills and may be invited to take solos.

 Special Customized Courses :- can be arranged for private groups/existing
bands who wish to have a closed study course. Minimum 8 students.
Dates can be specified by group according to availability.
N.B.. In this instance 10% group discount applies to groups of ten or more.

The Course Venue (see pictures)
Situated within a short walk of the accommodation, the practice rooms are, in fact empty apartments with 4/5 separate areas for sectional practice and the living room for group practice.

The Tutor Band is Estellas Cubanas - one of the most respected and highly acclaimed Charanga groups in Cuba today.

Student/Tutor ratio
Depending on the instrument and the number of students, the ratios will range from one to three students per tutor.
In any event each student is guaranteed some one to one tuition depending on needs.

Instruments
The larger instruments such as: piano, bass, drums are provided; all other instruments should be brought by the student.

Music Scores
Parts for each instrument are provided.
The musical director of Estrellas Cubanas, Rene Beltran, can adapt arrangements to accommodate.
