Musicaventura
is the brainchild of Andy Boothman and
Paul Bulmer in association with Sue Miller and Nick Williams
of Charanga del
Norte.
Andy
Boothman, Musical Director.
A percussionist and professional session musician for 20 years
Andy has performed on recordings, t.v., radio and stages around
Europe and U.K.. He also plays bass, guitar and piano.
Andy has been teaching percussion for the last 10 years and
has taught in the UK, Europe, USA and Cuba.
Since 1998 Andy has been visiting Cuba regularly studying percussion,
singing in Spanish and Yoruba, guitar and bass guitar. He has
developed many musical contacts in both Havana and Santiago
de Cuba.
Andy currently plays percussion in ‘Orchesta Timbala’
a 27 piece Carnaval big band and bass guitar in ‘Nueva
Vida’ a 7 piece salsa/descarga band both based in U.K..
He also performs with Havana based rumba group ‘Iroso
Obba’ when in Cuba.
Andy is currently studying Yoruba drum language with Nigerian
master drummer Rabiu Ayandokun and Cuban “Tres”
with Rolis Matos in Havana.
Andy is currently running weekly Afro Cuban percussion classes
in Manchester for players of all levels.

Paul
Bulmer, Administrative Director.
With 25 years of experience of running his own business, and
a keen amateur musician, Paul is well placed to handle the logistics
of running courses. He currently assists Sue Miller with her
Cuban music courses in Leeds. Paul has been visiting Cuba regularly
for the last five years both studying percussion and song and
developing contacts.
Paul is also an experienced furniture maker and makes conga
drums and Cuban ‘cajones’ (box drums) which he currently
supplies to instrument distributors.
Leonel
Cuesta Cespedes, Cuban Guide and Director of Entertainment.
A percussionist and band leader of the popular rumba group ‘Iroso
Obba’,
Leonel is a typically gregarious Habanero. With literally hundreds
of musical friends and contacts, he is the ideal guide for musicians
in Havana.
Sue
Miller
Bandleader, composer and arranger for Charanga del Norte. Sue
is currently touring the UK with her band, and runs weekly courses
in Cuban music.
Having made frequent visits to Cuba: researching, playing and
running courses. Paul and Andy both speak Spanish and will be
present for the duration of the course.
Their combined knowledge of Havana will enable course members
to get the most out of their stay in Havana.
